Obituary of George Washington May

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On February 24th, 2021, we lost a good man. George Washington May was born (on George Washington’s birthday) to Roscoe and Viola May. He was the fourth in the line of 10 children and was raised in Clinton, Tennessee. At 17, George joined the United States Marines where he earned the rank of sergeant while serving in Korea. Upon discharge, he moved to Detroit, Michigan where he worked for General Motors for 39 years. He claimed every car carried his initials, “GM”! At 30 he married Grace Elizabeth Nartowicz. They lived happily for 45 years until her death in 2010. After retiring, they moved to Florida where they both enjoyed golfing. He hated to admit that she got a hole in one and he never did. George loved his bright sunny Florida days. Even after he could no longer play golf he enjoyed sitting on his patio and watching the golf carts go by in the warm Florida weather. George leaves brother’s Bill May of Shelbyville, Tennessee (wife Mary) and Calvin May of Brecken Ridge, Texas (wife Lillian) as well as sisters Carolyn May of Clinton, Tennessee and Dorothy Pearl Hunter of MaComb, Michigan. He leaves behind a devoted niece, Edie May of Cleveland, Tennessee and loving second wife, Linda May of Hudson, Florida. He will be missed by many other family members and friends he met along the way. George and Grace will be inurned at Bushnell Military Cemetery.
