Nick was an instant friend. As a freelancer at the Herald News, Nick welcomed me to the society of yellow stained fingertips. We spent many nights in the dark, developing and printing that night’s work, and there was always music, chatter and friendly competition. I’ll never forget him. Condolences to Penny and the rest of the family...we lost a good man.

. Nicky had a big heart and great eye and he, along with another late, lamented Jersey great, Al Paglione, took me under their wings when I was a wet-behind-the-ears stage actor trying to stay afloat in the photojournalism biz long enough to pay off the credit card debts I accrued as a penniless actor.
Nick came to photojournalism from another disparate
profession...he was a hairdresser. Maybe that's why he took pity on me. But, even though we worked for competing papers, we became very close and we had many happy BBQs with Nicky and Penny, his wife, and their kids.
We're reaching an age when life is taking more away than it is giving back, and that sucks, but Nick was an original, lived a good and long life, and raised a wonderful family as his obit reflects. Godspeed and good light to you, Nicky.

I did not know Nicholas Sr. but I did know his son and two of his grand daughters, who used to be good friends with my grand daughters. I offer my prayers for the family. I am sorry for your loss.

I met Nick after Penny and I met in a photography class. I worked as a photographer at a small weekly newspaper and did some freelance work. One of my fond memories of Nick was when I had to print many copies of a photo I took for a private job early in my career. I remember the three of us being in their basement printing out the 8x10 copies of the picture that I still have nightmares about 40 or so years later. It was then that Nick taught me how to use a wide angle lens correctly after the fact. I still got paid and never made that mistake again! (And Nick never teased me about it.)
I spent many fun times with Penny and Nick in Brant Lake and at Danielle’s wedding. It was great to see how he was comfortable in all environments - hot, cold and in-between.
He was truly one-of-a-kind!

I was 13 when my dad begged him to hire me at Zookies drive inn. Very hesitant, Nick gave me a chance. The first day of work he told me that the only reason he hired me was because my dad asked him too. That was the best day of my life. I didn't know it then, but through the many years of working for him, he taught me so much, he would tell me stories and they always had meaning ( a life lesson) he would tell me to pay attention. He took me under his wing. I thank him everyday, because if he hadn't hired me and took the time with me, I wouldn't be proud of who I am today. He is a true hero!
Sorry for your loss.

Nick was larger than life! He gave us all the great joy, love and laughter each night he was here at Jimbo's behind the bar. Nick's life stories and tales were renown and exciting. His life was so packed with hard work, adventures and entrepreneurial projects. These events were enhanced by his great story telling. He left such a mark wherever he went and he will live in our memories of all the good times forever. His family, Penny, Nick, and Rocco were also so much a part of our Jimbo's Club at the Point Team. Nick's family felt like our family as well. Our hearts are with you in your celebration of your sweet husband and Dad's life.

Nick was a great friend while we worked together at Jimbo’s! He would make us Nickeritas ( his take on Margaritas)! He and Stacey Dobbs are whooping it up in heaven. He will be missed. So very sorry for your loss.❤️

Nick was a great friend and a fine photographer. We met on many assignments while I was a photographer on the Paterson News and Nick for the Herald News. He was always there to help a friend and often helped newcomers to the field with his guidance and advice, I enjoyed reading his postings on the social media.
RIP
