Obituary of Vito Vincenzo Vosilla

Please share a memory of Vito to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Vito Vosilla, 83, of Port Richey, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 19th, 2020, after battling Multiple Myeloma and Lung Cancer. Vito was born in Cosliacco, Italy (present day Kozlijak, Croatia) on September 16th, 1936 to parents Mario Vosilla and Giovanna Vosilla (Bacchia). Vito was the 2nd oldest of 4 children who, after living through WWII, found their home to be under communist rule in what became post-war Yugoslavia. Vito’s family fled their home in 1950, living for a short time in a refugee camp in Aquila, Italy, before settling in Genoa, Italy. Vito and his family moved to the United States on August 6, 1956. Their initial intended destination was Chicago, but instead, they ended up finding an apartment and settling in Elmhurst Queens, NY. Vito was naturalized as a citizen of the United States on February 13, 1962. Vito spent his career in hospitality, working initially on cruise ships and in hotels in New York City as a maître d. For a short time he owned and operated his own restaurant in Midtown Manhattan called Le Alpi (The Alps). Vito, his wife, and two sons moved from Queens to Port Richey, Florida in January of 1980. He was the maître d of Seaport Inn for 6 years before leaving and finishing the last 20+ years of his career working for Alfredo’s Italian Restaurant at Epcot Center in Orlando. His life experiences afforded Vito the opportunity to develop the ability to speak 5 languages. Besides his native Italian, he also became fluent in Croatian, French, Spanish and English (the last, he would joke, was the toughest one to master). Vito met his wife Maria Vosilla (Marino) in 1970 and the two were married on August 15, 1971, celebrating 49 wonderful years of marriage. Vito was preceded in death by his father Mario, mother Giovanna, and brother Daniele Vosilla. Vito is survived by his wife Maria, sister Bianca Rancich, brother Joseph Vosilla, son Richard Vosilla and his wife Kim Vosilla (Kline) and their 2 children Rebecca and Dominic, and son Paul Vosilla and his fiancée Monica Delaorra. A viewing is planned for Thursday June 25th at Prevatt Funeral Home on S.R. 52 in Hudson from 3PM to 6PM. All visitors are requested to wear masks and practice social distancing when visiting. A funeral mass will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church on Friday June 26th at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to HPH Hospice https://lifepathhospice.chaptershealth.org/HPHGeneralDonation (copy & paste link in your browser) which provided tremendously compassionate care and support to Vito and his family.
