Mark Kamleiter made a difference in the lives of all the children he represented. My son would not be in college today and leading a successful life if it were not for the passion he held to right the wrongs of public school system.. I and my family are forever grateful to this man. The lives of children became less secure on his loss. The ripple effect of his passing will be felt in our society from that day forward as children with disabilities are ruled by a system that does not care about the individual. Thank you to Mark and the family that supported him in tireless work. Peace be with you and enjoy the fruits of your labor in heave with our Father.

Mr. Mark Kamleiter was a gentleman, and a champion for children and their parents. I had many occasions to refer my patients to Mr. Kamleiter, and he always found solutions. He was always kind and gentile. When I needed an advocate for my own child, Mr. Kamleiter was there.... always ensuring that rights were not violated, and educational needs addressed. I was saddened today when I looked up his name to get his contact information to give to a parent, and learned that he had passed earlier this year. My prayers and eternal gratitude will always be with the Kamleiter family. He was a champion .......... for all the children. Rest Peacefully Mr. Kamleiter. Dr. Yolanda C. Leon, and family.

I was opposing counsel to Mark in many special education cases. He was a true professional who advocated vigorously for his clients. He was always gracious and sought the best for his clients in a reasonable manner. It was a pleasure working with him. He truly cared about his clients' wellbeing and often worked pro bono. My condolences to his loved ones.

Mark and I were colleagues representing families of children with special needs. For more than two decades we conferred on cases in order to help those who desperately needed and deserved legal assistance. Mark’s prior experience as a teacher allowed him to have a unique perspective. He freely gave of his time and his contributions were tremendous. Many of his suggestions enabled me to get better results for my clients. While he will be missed, his legacy will continue through the children who have received the direct and indirect benefits of his labor.

I had the pleasure of serving with Mark in various roles when he was on the Board for CASA (Community Action Stops Abuse).
He was first introduced to CASA because he inquired about the big house across the street from his home and the evening laughter shared on the wrap around porch. Once he learned that a shelter housing 30 women and children who had successfully sought safety from Domestic Violence, he went from neighbor to advocate. He brought a unique perspective to the conversation and the solution. He fearlessly approached those in the legal system, and never waivered from supporting CASA’s core mission, and was genuinely interested in understanding the multiple facets of domestic violence.
He led by example, and through leadership. He gentle soul has left an imprint on the many individuals and their children that received services during his 9 years in leadership. He gave the gift of hope and of a future to countless survivors.

Mark was one of the first people I met when I joined COPAA and attended my first COPAA conference which that year was in Florida. A fellow special education lawyer, I got to know Mark even better as a member of the COPAA board where his knowledge, compassion, coupled with composure and his commitment were always clear. When Mark talked, I listened all the more carefully. Even when we disagreed, and that was rare as in our discussions about a Nader vote, he was not disagreeable and his views, because they were his views, considered seriously. I remember most his genuine warmth, his infectious, omnipresent smile, his interest in others. Mark was one of only a handful of lawyers who are as humble as they are good at what they do, and Mark was among the best at doing what he did representing kids with disabilities. His commitment to the kids, the clients, was palpable. You knew he cared deeply for and served them well. But he was also a lawyer's lawyer who was eager, willing, and able to share his expertise. I had mixed feelings when Mark told me he was retiring from his Florida law practice and returning to pick up where he left off in Paris. I would miss my friend although not as much as all the kids he served so well. But I was happy for him in his new, or resumed old, calling. We stayed in touch through Facebook and when we last messaged, on my mention of a planned September trip to France and Italy, Mark offered to show me around Paris as only a Parisian could. As his niece said in her FB post, we have lost a good man. For all those who loved Mark, my deepest condolences.
